Over 1,000 people created a “future vertical city” in Shanghai Tower on Sunday, setting a new Guinness World Record for “most contributors to a miniature city of Lego bricks in eight hours.”

Participants, mostly youngsters aged between 6 and 18, were divided into eight groups to assemble the miniature city on the B2 floor of the Shanghai Tower, the second-tallest building in the world.

There was no blueprint for what the final Lego construction would look like, and participants were told merely to build a perfect day in their dream environment. What emerged was a colorful Lego city of offices, shops and galleries.

“It's a great work, and only by gathering so many people could we make it,” said Weiwei Gluckman, one of the world’s 11 Lego Certificated Processionals and a co-organizer of the event. “We hope people can understand that we should be responsible for our city’s future development. Especially for kids, we hope they think about what should we do to make a good future.”
